Update for LPCs in Texas
Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council
In Texas, starting September 1st, LPCs in will now be under a new organization titled the “Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council” (BHEC). We used to fall under the Health and Human Services Commission, but that ends effective SEPTEMBER 1, 2020. To learn more about BHEC, visit their website HERE.
So, what does this mean? It’s maybe too early to tell, but here are some of the bigger changes that appear to be taking place. I will do my best to update this post as we learn more information.
For licenses ending in August 2020- you MUST submit your renewal online prior to the 14th of August to avoid late penalties!! BHEC will be transitioning the database of all online information from the 15th through the 31st. Applicants that fail to submit their renewal prior to the 14th will have to wait until September 1st, and will have to pay the late fees. If you prefer to send your renewal in paper form, it must be in the PLCU office by the 14th. If it gets there any later, it will be returned and you will have to wait until September 1st to resubmit your application online.
Starting September 1st, all license renewals will be required to be completed through the Council’s website. No need to go to the old website from HHSC anymore. It won’t exist!
For more information about the newly adopted rules from the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council, you can click this LINK. From there, you can review all the adopted rules that begin September 1, 2020. Please note: these are the general Council rules, not the LPC rules. Those are currently in the public comments phase. Once they are finalized, I will update with another post.
But, if you are eager to see the proposed rule changes, and want to comment on them, here’s a link to the proposed rules. To leave a comment, you can email Open.records@tsbec.texas.gov.
You can look at all the proposed changes, but the biggest change I noticed immediately is the proposed rules will change “LPC Intern” to LPC Associate”. Again, I’ll update the blog as we get more information and rules become finalized.
