Here are some things to consider first:
Do I qualify for upgrading my license to the Supervisor specialty?
As of February, 2021, here are the requirements:
The requirements for obtaining licensure as an LPC-S are set forth in 22 TAC 681.72(d). Generally, these requirements include:
have held the LPC license in good standing for at least 60 months;
application form and fees; and
certificate of completion for an acceptable supervisor training:
a doctoral level course in the supervision of professional counseling or mental health services which was taken for credit at an accredited school and documented on an official transcript; the qualifying doctoral level course may have been completed no more than five (5) years before the date the application for supervisor status was received; or
a 40-clock-hour supervision course as set forth in §681.147 (relating to 40-Clock-Hour Supervisor Training Course); the qualifying 40-clock-hour supervision course may have been completed no more than two (2) years before the date the application for supervisor status was received.
NOTE: For applicants who hold an LPC license in another jurisdiction, the license must be active and in good standing and the jurisdiction’s licensing requirements must meet or exceed Texas’ licensure requirements before the license can be used to obtain supervisor status.
